How to care for your most precious jewelry.
Once you have found a piece of jewelry that you absolutely love, you want to make sure that you can enjoy it for as long as possible. We are happy to share our best tips for taking good care of your favorite pieces, so that you can enjoy them for a long time.

Regularly Polishing Your Jewelry
Take the time to care for your jewelry at least once a month. The type of care required depends on the material of your pieces. At Jaylaa Jewelry, our pieces are crafted from 925 sterling silver, heavy-gauge silver, or gold plated. Because silver is a natural material that breathes, it will oxidize and darken over time. Regularly polishing your silver jewelry with a soft cloth or dipping it in a silver polish pot can remove this tarnish. Gold plated jewelry requires similar care, as it is made of silver at its core. Jaylaa Jewelry uses extra-strong gold plating to ensure that the material remains durable. However, the silver underneath can oxidize and eventually start to tarnish through the plating, resulting in small spots. That’s why we recommend polishing your silver and gold plated jewelry at least once a month to keep your pieces as smooth and shiny as the day you first fell in love with them.
Protect Your Jewelry While Traveling
When you’re on the go, it’s important to protect your handmade jewelry from scratches. When packing, store your jewelry safely in a jewelry box, bag, or purse. Wrap each piece individually to prevent any damage. Gold scratches a little easier, so store your favorite pieces in individual, soft cloth bags. That way, they’ll be safely protected in your suitcase as you explore the world.
Keep Your Jewelry Dry and Avoid Sunlight and Perfumes
To prevent your silver and gold plated jewelry from oxidizing and tarnishing, it is crucial to keep your pieces dry and out of direct sunlight, as this can accelerate the oxidation process. When you are not wearing your jewelry, always store it in a closed box to avoid contact with moisture or sunlight. This way, your jewelry will retain that beautiful shine for as long as possible.
Remove Your Jewelry While Sleeping, Showering, or Exercising
Because jewelry and gemstones are delicate, we recommend removing your jewelry when showering, going to bed, or exercising. The same goes for our more delicate silver pieces. These simple habits can help extend the life of your jewelry and ensure it always looks its best.
