What materials do I use when making Jaylaa Jewelry jewelry?

I would be happy to explain this to you in more detail in this blog

SILVER OR GOLD
You probably know gold and silver. Gold is a precious product and we do not sell real gold jewelry at Jaylaa. I do use 925 sterling silver. 925 stands for the amount of silver in the jewelry, expressed as a percentage. 925 silver contains 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metal, copper is often used for this.
100% silver is very soft and therefore very difficult to process into jewelry.
Is there a disadvantage to 925 silver? Not really! One of the properties of sterling silver is that it oxidizes. This means that the silver turns black, it depends on the PH value (acidity) of your skin how quickly and if it happens.

OXIDIZING SILVER JEWELRY
Take a piece of aluminum foil, put it in a glass bowl and pour some boiling water on it. Add 1 tablespoon of salt and 2 tablespoons of soda. Place your beautiful jewelry on the bottom and make sure it touches the aluminum. Let it "soak" for 10 minutes and then rinse with cold water and gently polish it clean.

GOLD PLATED JEWELRY
At Jaylaa I sometimes also process gold plated sterling silver materials. This means that a layer is poured over the real silver layer. Because it is a layer, it will eventually wear out. How long will your jewelry stay beautiful? That depends on the thickness of the gold layer.

14K GOLDFILLED
I am proud to say that more and more jewelry is made of 14k, just take a look at the minimalist bracelets . If you prefer to wear gold and real gold that is a bit above your budget, then gold filled jewelry is also an excellent option. Gold filled means that a layer of 14k gold is mechanically connected to a base material (usually copper) until a certain thickness of the gold is reached. This gold layer must be at least 1/20th of the total weight. However, the gold layer is many times thicker than with gold-plated materials. Gold filled materials retain their beautiful gold color, it is not called `a lifetime jewelry` for nothing, so the gold layer remains on it for a very long time. This results in a beautiful and affordable quality that is well tolerated by people who are allergic to metals other than gold. Gold filled is more expensive than other materials because it contains more gold.

I do not use brass and stainless steel for Jaylaa's jewelry.

Tips for caring for your jewelry
Jaylaa's jewelry is made of high-quality materials, but that jewelry also needs to be cared for properly. Below I list a few do's and don'ts for you:

  • Perfume, hairspray and other cosmetics can affect the jewelry. So first put on your make up, hairspray and spray perfume and then put on your jewelry.
  • Remove jewelry when swimming/showering or cleaning.
  • When you are not wearing your jewelry, store it in a dark place. A good tip is to store it in the Jaylaa jewelry boxes. Preferably do this separately.
